A: As we are getting into a new year, many are making resolutions to become healthier and happier, which is fantastic. But, are detoxifications the way to go about this? I believe so, and let me explain why. While I certainly do not agree with starvation cleanses that place ridiculous demands on your body, I do feel that we all have toxins built up that need to be removed from our systems so that we can become healthier. My husband and I do a 21-day liver detoxification program twice per year for that very purpose. Over the course of a year, not only do we consume large amounts of toxins (processed foods, chemicals, pesticides, etc.) we also absorb environmental toxins, put chemical toxins on our body with lotions, shampoos and perfumes, and the list goes on. Here are some of the benefits associated with detoxification programs:
- Improved sleep patterns
- Improved Circulation
- Increased Energy levels
- Improved Hormone Function
- Improved Hair, Skin and Nails
- Weight Loss
I added the weight loss component in there with caution. While that is the reason that most people begin a detoxification program, it is not the primary purpose.
