Lois Burkhardt
Lois’s greatest pride was to be a loving, encouraging grandmother to her four beautiful grandchildren Jack Buchanan, Harrison Burkhardt, Cohen Burkhardt and Lucy Buchanan. She is also survived by her husband, Tom; her children Blythe Burkhardt and Tony Buchanan of St. Louis, MO, and Bryan and Betsy Burkhardt of Johnston; and siblings Carole Mall, Larry and Patty Mall, and Richard Mall.
She is predeceased by her parents Walter Baylor Mall and Lois Marian Schain Mall, and granddaughter Maisie Burkhardt.
Lois was a loving, intelligent, artistic, and creative woman who loved children and spent over 35 years teaching preschool, first in Hastings, NE and then in Johnston, IA, until retiring in 2012. Lois was an active member of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) giving of her time and talents in teaching, singing and decorating her home church. She also enjoyed travel, reading, sewing, needlepoint, baking, and spending time with friends and family.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on January 17th, 2015, at West Des Moines Christian Church. Memorials may be made to Habitat for Humanity, Planned Parenthood, and Hospice of Central Iowa.
