Northwood where he was active in high school sports. After high school, he attended Upper Iowa University. He entered the Army in 1950 and served in Germany until 1952. Bill was an avid University of Iowa and Chicago Cubs sports fan and was a Little League coach for many years.

Bill was married to Patricia Todd in 1962. His survivors include his wife, Patricia; son, William Ebert, Jr.; daughter, Jennifer Schwarz; son, James (Cari) Ebert; grandchildren, William “Will” Ebert III, Cooper and Sydney Schwarz and Whitney, Allyson and Aaron Ebert; sister, Ardith (Joseph) Einertson; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Paul and Robert Ebert; and sisters, Eleanor Glunz and Lois Sponheim.
