James, son of James Dean and Avonelle (Higgason) Rash, was born September 23, 1929 in Eldora, IA.
He served in the Korean War and on November 28, 1953 was joined in marriage to Betty Joanne Ollinger, his devoted wife of 61 years. Jim was a licensed land surveyor and he worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation for over 30 years. Following his retirement in 1990, Jim continued to work as a land surveyor in the private sector for another 20 years. Jim was a member of St. Joseph parish for over 60 years and had an extraordinary commitment to his Catholic faith.
Survivors include his wife, Betty; children: Vern Rash of Altoona, Gayla (Don) Winslow of Rochester, MN, Mike Rash of Adel, Andrea (Harv) Vij of Wellesley, MA; grandchildren: Michelle Rash, Emily Rash, Stephanie Rash, Alyssa Winslow, Nolan Winslow, Paige Winslow, Libbey (Peter) Schmitt, Lauren Rash, Alec Rash and AJ Vij; and great grandchildren: Liam Schmitt and Oliver Duncan. Jim was preceded in death by his daughter, Audrey Marie Rash and his brother, Clyde Rash. Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, and he will be missed by all who knew him.
