8:30 A.M. on Tuesday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Music for the service will be by Mary Ross. Casket bearers will be Grace’s nieces and nephews. Burial will be in the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden.

Born on December 30, 1921 at York, NE, she was the daughter of Glenn and Clara (Andresen) Walkup. She grew up on a farmstead north of York with her three brothers: Harold, Wilbur and Edward and two sisters: Maxine and Dorothy.

Grace was a World War II bride, marrying Robert (Bob) Dean Epperly on February 8, 1944. After Bob’s Army discharge in 1946 until 1962 the couple farmed just west of Ralston where they raised two children: Larry and Mary Lou. For several years she was secretary to the Superintendent of schools and school board secretary for the Glidden – Ralston School District. Grace also filled that position for the Maurice / Orange City School District for a little over a year.

In 1963 the couple moved to Colorado Springs, CO where Bob managed an A&W Restaurant with Grace working by his side. During those years they were involved in several A&W’s in the Colorado Springs area, finally ending up at the A&W in Spencer, IA. They were like second parents for many of the teenagers who worked there for them and have remained in contact for many years. On the weekends you’d find them following their son Larry racing his late model stock cars.

In retirement, they moved to Coon Rapids, IA to be closer to their grandchildren: Kelly, B.J. and Heather. Grace loved to work as a volunteer at the local grade school, New Hope Village, and the Methodist Church.

Grace is survived by a daughter Mary Lou Bowman and her husband Tony of Galva, IL; a son Larry Epperly of Hawarden, IA; three grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; a sister Maxine Tryon of Glidden; a brother Edward Walkup and his wife Mary of Glidden; and several nieces and nephews.

Grace is preceded in death by her cherished husband Bob, her father Glenn, her mother Clara, her sister Dorothy in infancy, her brothers Harold and Wilbur, her precious Aunt Minnie, and many loved and missed relatives.
