Patsy “Pat” A. Welder, 73, of Madrid, passed from this life suddenly on Monday, August 25, 2014, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 28, at Iles Sundberg-Kirkpatrick Chapel in Madrid. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 29, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, south of Madrid.

Pat was born on October 8, 1940, in Redfield, Iowa, to Millard Dean and Lillian Libby (Buschow) Travis. Her family moved to Des Moines, and she later graduated from North High School. On June 22, 1958, Pat was united in marriage to Donald “Don” LeRoy Welder in Des Moines. They made their home in Madrid until 1971; Woodward, IA until 1977; and Citrus Heights, CA until 1997, when they settled back in Madrid. A beloved homemaker all of her life; Pat was employed as a Receiving Clerk with JCPenney in Des Moines, for more than 20 years, retiring in 2002; and also was formerly employed as a bookkeeper with D&B Construction in Woodward. Pat was a loving, caring and devoted wife and companion, mother, grandma, sister, aunt and friend; she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She was an avid reader and loved spending time at the library and with her grandchildren.

She is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband of 56 years, Don Welder of Madrid; son, Scott Welder of Citrus Heights, CA; daughter, Stacey (Tony) Dostal of Marshalltown, IA; brother, Richard Travis of Oregon; sister, Bonnie Bracewell of Florida; and five grandchildren, Justin, Rayne, Chance, Kelsey and Donnie. She is also survived by her beloved dog and loyal companion, “Buddy”. Pat was preceded in death by her parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Russell and Margaret Welder; brother-in-law, Fred Welder; and one niece, Brenda Welder.

The family has respectfully requested that memorial contributions may be made in Pat’s memory to either: Madrid Public Library or the Sanborn Memorial Chapel at the Madrid Home.
