Q: Is natural healing for me?

Posted August 27, 2014 in Advice Column, Bondurant

A: There has been a lot of buzz lately about “natural healing,” “eco friendly” and  “environmentally conscious.” If this is something you are finding yourself drawn to but equally as confused about, you are not alone. Often these terms are a fancy way of saying “back to the basics.” I am going to give you a quick overview of two basic everyday items that contain mighty powerful healing and health benefits. In future articles, we will continue to explore in detail the above terminology, break it down and make it very simple for you to slowly incorporate in your everyday life.

Our first two healers are epsom salt and essential oils. Epsom salt is a pure mineral compound of magnesium and sulfate readily absorbed through the skin. Its health benefits range from, but are not limited to relaxation, pain relief, assisted muscle/pain relief, increased nerve function and eliminating toxins. Ideal application is a foot bath allowing an easy and ideal way of absorption.

Essential oils are oils extracted from trees, leaves, flowers, bark, shrubs, flowers and brush through distillation. Each oil possesses a unique healing property of its own and is able to be cocktailed with other oils to create a compound unique to you. I would suggest starting simple with a couple basics such as lavender oil, used for antiseptic, relaxation and pain relief;  rosemary oil, used for liver detox and proper digestive function and eucalyptus oil, used for flu and cold relief and stimulates the immune system.
