Colleen was born January 15, 1926, in Des Moines to David and Ethel (Thomas) Johnson. She graduated from East High School and became a personal shopper for Younkers Department Store. Colleen met her future husband, Ronald Keith Curtis while roller skating after his return from WWII. They married six months later on July 21, 1946, in Des Moines, Iowa. They made their home in the Grimes and Granger area where they farmed and raised their children.
Colleen, according to her husband Keith, was a partner in farming however not a silent partner. They spent their retirement years wintering in Mesa, AZ, where they enjoyed square dancing, hiking the nearby mountains, swimming and playing cards. Colleen loved hosting and entertaining friends and family, making every birthday and holiday a special event. They were fortunate to travel throughout the U.S. as well as internationally. Colleen will always be remembered for being a “Classy Lady”. She was always perfectly dressed with matching accessories.
In addition to her parents Colleen was preceded in death by her husband, two daughters, Bonnie Lou Curtis and Sheila Kay Malone; and her siblings, Clara Margaret Stewart and Charles S. Johnson. Those that will greatly miss her are her children, Linda (Randy) Pleva of Urbandale and Ron (Carla) Curtis of Granger; six grandchildren Marci (Joel) Lindahl of Boone, Amy (Spike) Craven of Urbandale, Brian (Niki) Malone of Ames, Valarie (Tracy) Vest of Waukee, Eric (Nikki) Knoblock of Denver, Iowa and Nick Curtis of Granger; and ten great grandchildren.
