Kim and Jay Erickson’s home barely resembles the house they purchased 13 years ago. All of the work they’ve put into it has truly transformed it from a dated 1970s home into a modern and comfortable place to raise their two children. From the mirror-covered walls and leopard print bathroom to the virtual forest growing in their backyard the Ericksons have updated almost every area of their house inside and out.
An avid runner and bicyclist, Jay was looking for an area that supported his hobbies. After consulting with many coworkers he knew Clive was the place he needed to be.
“It’s got a world-class trail system,” Jay states. “It’s a real gem.” He was also looking for a mature neighborhood with established homes and lots of trees. After narrowing the search to his top three choices, Kim flew in from Florida to view the contenders.
“The decision was mutual,” Kim says of the house they chose. Both she and Jay knew they had found the one.
After moving in, they got right to work painting walls and replacing the deck. They also took on the large project of remodeling their kitchen. By taking down some upper cabinets, the Ericksons were able to open the kitchen into the family room This inviting area is now where the family spends most of their time together. They have also replaced all of the windows in the home and added a bay window to their living room. This light-infused living room — affectionately called the “quiet room” — is Kim’s favorite place in the house. It is also where she and their daughter, Jessica, enjoy practicing the piano.
Kim and Jay have also renovated two bathrooms, put in new sliding doors and have done endless landscaping. They are about a year away from finishing the basement, something Jay has always wanted to do.
After taking 13 trees out of their backyard, the Ericksons had enough space to put in a trampoline. Kyle, their son, loves to be outside jumping on the trampoline or playing baseball in the front yard. Both Erickson children enjoy the close proximity to the greenbelt trail which allows them to ride their bikes with their dad.
Jay, a North Dakota native, is employed by Wells Fargo. Kim, who is from Florida, is a licensed fitness instructor at the YMCA and Seven Flags Fitness. They have lived in Clive for 13 years and enjoy raising their family in this community.
