Ramona Andrews, age 81 of Manning, Iowa, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Tuesday, August 5, 2014, at the Manning Plaza Nursing Home in Manning, following a period of declining health. Family services are being planned in her hometown in Minnesota.
Ramona Jane, daughter of Elmer and Stella (Smith) Nystrom, was born June 1, 1933, at Kingston Township, Minnesota. She grew up in Kimball and Minneapolis where she attended North High School.
On June 25, 1952, Ramona was united in marriage with Richard L. Mandery at Columbia Heights, Minnesota. Ramona was the mother of five children: Terri, Rick, Kim, Bill and Steve. For most of her life she was a homemaker but also worked outside of the home from time to time.
On December 14, 1985, Ramona married Vincent Andrews at Maple Grove, Minnesota. They resided in Brooklyn Center and he passed away on February 4, 1987. Ramona remained in Minnesota until 2000, when she moved to Manning, Iowa to be closer to Terri, Kim and Steve. She returned to Minnesota in 2008, but came back to Manning in November of 2013.
In the 1990s, Ramona suffered a stroke which limited her activities. She still enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, watching Wheel of Fortune, going to the casino, and visiting with family and friends. In June of 2014, Ramona became a resident of the Manning Plaza Nursing Home.
Ramona is survived by five children: Terri Johnson and husband Dick of Manning, Iowa; Rick Mandery and wife Nicole of Becker, Minnesota; Kim Mandery and her significant other Lonnie Benson of Irwin, Iowa; Bill Mandery and wife Linda of Hopkins, Minnesota; and Steve Mandery and his significant other Robin DeBoth of Manilla, Iowa; 12 grandchildren: Danielle Olson, Jake Robertson, Rick Mandery Jr., Angela Mandery, Katelynn Wiitala, Ashley Mandery, Chad Mandery, Brittney Mandery, Brianna Mandery, Eric Lingwall, Staci Lingwall and Kaleb Mandery; eight great-grandchildren: Ava, Elise and Lane Olson; Rick Mandery III, Dylan Krueger, Madelyn Krueger, Anna Erdman and Hailey Stele; three step-grandchildren: Kristi and Tonya Verbraken and Nick Grimm; a step great-grandson Harper Bollman; a sister Delores Palmer of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota; a brother Doug Nystrom of Spring Valley, Wisconsin; and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
