Philip Eugene Norton, 85, died at home on Sunday, July 27, 2014 of natural causes. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 2, 2014 at the West Des Moines United Methodist Church with a private family burial of his cremated remains at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.

Phil was born June 14, 1929 near Haven, KS, one of six children of Virgil C. and Florence C. (Ralph) Norton. He attended country school and graduated from Arlington High School, Arlington, KS in 1947. On December 17, 1950 he married Harriett Irene Milbourn in Burns, KS. Together they raised four children, Gary A. (Barbara) of Norwalk, IA, Steven R. (Joyce) of Ankeny, IA, Donald E. of West Des Moines, IA, and David L. (Janet) of Des Moines, IA. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953, stationed at Ft. Holabird in Baltimore, MD. In 1958, he moved his family to Iowa, where he worked in sales for Sinclair Oil Company for many years. He later worked for Riley Paint Company in Burlington, IA for several years and FS/Growmark for 16 years in West Des Moines, IA where he retired in 1994. There were many moves over the years but in 1972, they returned to West Des Moines.

Phil enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and playing golf. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Iowa State fan. He is survived by his wife, four sons, eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
