Frances Cecelia Meiners, age 87, of Coon Rapids, Iowa passed away on Thursday, July 17, 2014 at Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Rapids.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, July 21, 2014 at Annunciation Catholic Church in Coon Rapids with Fr. Andrew Hoffman as celebrant assisted by Deacon Louis Meiners. Friends may call at the Johnson and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids after 3:30 P.M. on Sunday where there will be a Rosary at 4:00 P.M. and a Christian Wake Service at 7:00 P.M. by Annunciation Parish. The casket will be moved to the church at 12:00 P.M. on Monday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Lector for the Mass will be Kelly Hays. Gift Bearers will be great-grandchildren: Parker Hays, Brynn Bass, and Morgan Meiners. Mass servers will be Jade and Easton Hays. Music for the Mass will be by Rosemary Riesberg and the Annunciation Choir. Casket bearers will be grandsons: David Bass, Ryan Bass, Matthew Meiners, Scott Young, Michael Young, and Aaron Meiners. Burial will be in the Coon Rapids Cemetery.
Born on April 1, 1927 in Willey, Iowa, she was the daughter of George and Theresia (Brincks) Berger. She grew up in Willey and attended St. Mary’s School. Following her schooling Frances was a housekeeper for Fr. H.J. Dries and she helped on her family’s farm. She was married to Albert H. Meiners on May 3, 1950 at Annunciation Catholic Church in Coon Rapids by Fr. Anthofer. Frances and Albert farmed south east of Dedham, east of Willey, and near Viola Township before buying a farm and moving to Coon Rapids in 1960. Frances drove a team of horses the first few years of farming as she did not care to drive the tractors. She was a housekeeper for Fr. E.V. Carpenter at Annunciation Parish for many years and she volunteered at Thomas Rest Haven and the New Hope Village Bargain Shop. She was a member of Annunciation Parish in Coon Rapids where she was active in the women’s guild and she sang in the choir. Frances enjoyed music and played the slide guitar, the button accordion, and the organ. She played with her brothers and sisters at family gatherings and at church. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. Frances loved and cherished time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Surviving are her husband Albert H. Meiners of Coon Rapids of 64 years; two daughters: Doris Bass of Coon Rapids and Linda Young and her husband Les of Madrid, Iowa; three sons: Donald Meiners and his wife Joyce of Coon Rapids, Thomas Meiners of Coon Rapids, and Joseph Meiners and his wife Rhonda of Sigourney, Iowa; twelve grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; a sister Bernice Bluml of Carroll; a brother Edmund “Butch” Berger and his wife LaVonne of Lidderdale; two sisters-in-law: Catherine Wittrock and her husband Clarence of Carroll and Marcella Naberhaus and her husband Norbert of Carroll; two brothers-in-law: Bernard Meiners and his wife Marita of Coon Rapids and Anthony Meiners and his wife Coleen of Carroll; a sister-in-law Dorothy Berger of Lohrville; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Frances was preceded in death by her parents, two infant daughters: Diane and Joann, a son-in-law Darrell “Shorty” Bass, three brothers: Joseph Berger and his wife Viola, Alvin Berger, and Raymond Berger and his wife Virginia, three sisters: Marie Riesberg and her husband William, Leona Seidl and her husband Rubert, and Lucille Berger, a brother-in-law Elmer Bluml, a granddaughter-in-law Sheri Meiners, a brother-in-law John Meiners and his wife Margaret.Information provided by: Johnson & Woodhouse Funeral Home
