When retired couple Eldon and Marilyn Lind moved from Colfax to Ankeny in 2002, they were looking for a place closer to their daughter and her family. They found that Georgetown Townhomes were just the match for them.
Georgetown Townhomes are tucked off of North Ankeny Boulevard and Northwest 18th Street. It’s close to some of the new restaurants and medical clinics on the northwest side of Ankeny, complete with a pond and mature landscaping.
“The complex is very well lit so we also feel that it offers quite a bit of safety,” Marilyn says. “We were attending our grandsons’ soccer games and were driving to Ankeny two and three times a week. It was also time to retire from the hours of yard work in the summer and snow shoveling in the winter.”
Marilyn says they chose the neighborhood because they were looking for a ranch townhome with a basement.
“Our daughter reminded us that Ankeny has had several tornados, and she wanted to make certain that we had a safe place to go in case of a storm.
“The thing we like best about our neighborhood is the neighbors,” she says. “We have been surrounded by friendly young couples who have always gone out of their way to help us with anything they could. We became the dog sitters and babysitters of the neighborhood and have been adopted as the official ‘Grandpa and Grandma’ of the area. Everyone not only offered their services to us, but have become our good friends.”
The house also allows lots of natural light to come in on two sides of their home during the day.
“Our home is comfortable and adapts well to a senior citizen,” Marilyn says. “We have everything we need on one floor, and we feel that we will be able to stay here even as we get older. We always find it inviting when we return home.”
