Funeral Services for Jean Brabbs, 90, of Jefferson will be 11:00 am Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church in Grand Junction. Visitation with the family will be at 10:00 am Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Grand Junction until the time of the service. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Guthrie County, Iowa. Memorials are suggested to the family and may be left at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson.
Pyrle Jean Brabbs, daughter of George Laughery and Essie Goochey Laughery, was born September 1, 1923 in Guthrie County, Iowa and died, July 12, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 90 years.
Jean grew up in Guthrie Center and graduated from Guthrie Center High School. She worked as a school teacher and then later as a bookkeeper for Thompson Food Land for 17 years. On October 25, 1942, Jean was united in marriage to George Brabbs at the Bowman Chapel in Guthrie County, Iowa. They were the parents of two children: Ruth and Dennis.
Jean and George made their home in Guthrie County, IA, Ankeny, IA and then Grand Junction, Iowa. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Grand Junction. She enjoyed people, grand kids, playing cards, Rummikub, and drinking coffee with the ladies.
Jean is survived by her daughter Ruth (Mike) Wiles of Guthrie Center, IA; her son Dennis (Val) Brabbs of Scottsdale, AZ; sister: Leone Fritz of Jefferson, IA; sister-in-law: Mary Stewart of Des Moines, IA; brother-in-law: David Brabbs of Ohio; 5 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
