Have you been to the Churdan Public Library lately? Did you know we have six public access computers, and offer wireless capabilities? We have more than 650 DVDs and more than 40 different magazine titles you can check out. Oh, yes, and we even have books — something to please everyone. We are proud of our large selection of Christian fiction. For children, we have board books for our youngest readers, chapter books for those learning to read and young adult fiction for the teenagers.
Every Wednesday during the school year we have preschool story time at 9:30 a.m. We have a similar program in the summer, but we have two different sessions; — one for the preschoolers and one for those in grades kindergarten through fifth. During the school year we host many activities for the young people on early-out school days. We take great pride in the programs we are able to provide for our young people. Even though some days it can get pretty noisy in the library, we are pleased to provide a safe and fun environment for all the children in town and surrounding rural area.
The library building was built in 1961, and an addition was added in 1980. During the last 30 years the role of the library has changed a lot. The addition of so many electronic devices has created the need for more programming space within the library. This past December we began a fundraising campaign to add a 30-foot by 36-foot addition to the building. This area will provide more space for programming and create a maker space (a space where we can provide additional services to our patrons).
Be sure to visit us at our Facebook page: Churdan Public Library, or our website www.churdan.lib.ia.us. We announce activities as well as have lots of pictures of what we are doing.
