Melva Sherman. 89 passed away peacefully on July 1, 2014. Services will be held at 11 a.m., July 8, 2014 at Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 5615 SW 14th St, Des Moines. Interment will occur at Glendale Cemetery.
Melva was born July 25, 1924, to John and Ella Stoll Michel of Boone Iowa.
After graduating from Story City High School in 1942, Melva began a career of various administrative assignments including doing her part for the war effort by working in the US Ordnance Plant in Ankeny. She also worked for the State of Iowa and various professional offices in Des Moines.
Melva loved to garden and was especially proud of her roses and tomatoes. Melva also enjoyed lively conversation especially about politics and her beloved Hawkeyes.
Melva is survived by son, John M. Sherman. Melva dedicated her life to insure John enjoyed life to the fullest and to insure his safety and well-being.
She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Marian Lee Michel and 9 nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by husband, John A. Sherman; her parents; three sisters, Ann Jacobs, Velda Lutjen, and Carol Varner, and three brothers Carl, Loren and Ken Michel.
