Ronald Murken, age 75, of Boone, passed from this life at the Boone County Hospital on June 29, 2014.
A private service for the immediate family will be held Thursday. Burial will be in the Linwood Park Cemetery.
Friends may call at Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Wednesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. There will not be any family present.
Ronald Allen Murken was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on August 2, 1938, and grew up on a farm east of Boone.
He graduated from United Community High School in 1957.
Ron served with the Iowa National Guard from 1960 to 1967.
He was an avid bowler for a number of years and had numerous trophies.
Other hobbies included watching the Iowa Hawkeyes (his nickname was “Hawkeye Ron”) and the Green Bay Packers football games.
He also liked car races and traveling.
One of his favorite foods was fresh tomatoes, so he usually had a little garden within his nephew’s large garden.
The Whistle Stop Café was one of his favorite places to eat.
After 22 years, he retired from Iowa State University Printing Services in August of 2000.
Ron was preceded in death by his brother Norman in 1926, his mother, Catherine Adix Murken in 1960 and his father, Emanuel Murken in 1980.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his sister Deloris Weaver and her husband Gerald of Johnston, his nieces and their husbands, Kathleen and Randy Gingerich of Des Moines, and Karolyn and Roger Chambers of Gillette, Wyoming, his nephews and wives, Curt and Robin Weaver of Chisago City, Minnesota, and Craig and Amy Weaver of Newton.Information provided by: Schroeder Memorial Chapel, Inc. 1006 6th Street Boone, IA 50036 www.schroedermemorialchapel.com
