April 25, 2014 (Carlisle, Iowa) — “Novae Vitae” means “new life,” and for Gordon and Barbara Graham, spring is a time of renewal and excitement on their 50-acre farm near Carlisle. Free-range chickens provide eggs, and small-breed Dexter cattle feed on grass without antibiotics or additives. A few colonies of bees supply honey and natural pollination for the gardens.
Gordon, a professional software consultant, was raised in Nebraska. He and Barbara ventured into food production on a rural acreage, and moved to their present farm more than 10 years ago. The family of six is now immersed in the experience of farm life. A regular participant in local farmers markets, Novae Vitae Farm is committed to local, natural, sustainable agriculture and the Gordons carefully research products and processes that will maintain their vision. Their meat, eggs, honey and other products are sold through the Iowa Food Cooperative and at specialty retailers in the Des Moines area.
