Dodger Pride is Alive!

Posted June 24, 2014 in Community Blogs

The Dodger athletic summer season is off to a fast start as both baseball and softball are experiencing early successes.  The Dodger girls won the Fort Dodge Invitational last weekend earning Coach Andi Adams her 500th victory!  The Dodger boys have racked up a 14 – 5 record so far this season.  There are plenty of games left on the schedule, so find a time to check out a game and support our boys and girls of summer.

On June 13th the Dodger Athletic Golf Outing helped raise nearly $35,000 for our athletic teams. The first ever Dodger Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet was held Thursday, June 12th.  One hundred friends, family members and guests welcomed eight new members into the Dodger Athletic Hall of Fame. Inductees included: Charles Bodady, Nickole Dillard, Seth Zehr, Dan Taylor, Megan Paulson, Nik Moser, and coaches, Jackie Wilde and Vernon “Dutch” Huseman.

Our spring teams also experienced successful seasons. The Dodger boys tennis team finish 4th at state.  In addition, Andrew Stover, Brian Murman and Jonathan Bowser also competed at the individual State Tennis meet. Emily Knight and Kariana Grindberg competed for the Dodger girls in doubles at individual State Tennis. The girls golf team posted some of their best numbers of the season in May while both girls and boys track saw several athletes compete at both the State meet in Des Moines and the Drake Relays. The boys and girls soccer teams also experienced their fair share of success.

Also during May, the FDSH Drama Department’s Spring Musical: Anything Goes was a huge success. The FDSH musical is the longest running high school musical in the country.  Four nights of music, talent and fun were put on display at the Fort Dodge Middle School auditorium.

Overall, the spring was a big success in Dodger country and the summer promises to be even bigger with the talent of our baseball and softball teams.  Highlighting the end of the regular season for baseball will be the drawing for the 2014 Ford Mustang.  This will take place at the final home baseball game of the season on Tuesday, July 15, at Dodger Stadium.  Tickets are still available for $5 each at the FDSH office and Fort Dodge Ford.

Stay tuned for more excitement from the FDSH athletic and activities department. Let’s go Dodgers!
