Jerry Fisher, age 84, of 861 J Avenue, rural Boone, died June 18, 2014, at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church in Ogden with Rev. James Bruch officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Boone with Military Honors conducted by the Boone Veterans Council.

Gerald William Fisher was born in Boone on November 10, 1929, the son of Raymond and Mary (Wheelock) Fisher.

Jerry graduated from Pilot Mound High School in 1947 and then served with the United States Navy during the Korean War.

On January 18, 1962, Jerry married Helen Wisecup at the Sacred Heart Church in Boone.

For 31 years, Jerry worked at the Boone County Hospital as a maintenance man. He retired in 1991.

He also grain farmed, raised livestock, and served as janitor at St. John’s.

Jerry enjoyed coon hunting, history, reading westerns, and gardening.

He was a member of the American Legion Post #56 and the Knights of Columbus in Ogden.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, a son George, an infant brother Raymond ‘Junior’, and a sister Rose Gaskill.

He is survived by his wife Helen of rural Boone, a son Nick Fisher of Boone and his two daughters Kristi Fisher and Travis of Iowa Falls, and Brittany Campfield and husband Zach of Boone; two daughters, Marie Fisher of Renton, Washington and her children Alex, Austin, and Jayden, all of Renton, and Nancy Bougher and husband Travis of Des Moines and their children Michael, Dezeray, and Brandon Bougher, all of Des Moines; a brother John Fisher and wife Pauline of Pilot Mound; two sisters JoAnn Fields of Weston, Florida, and Patricia Anderson and husband Denny of Davenport; two great grandchildren Xander and Jerry, and a third, soon to be born.

Friends may call at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall on Monday from 2 until 8 p.m. where the family will be present from 6 until 8 p.m. and a Vigil Service will be at 7 p.m. Visitation continues Tuesday at the Church from 9 a.m. until service time.

In memory of Jerry, memorials may be directed to St. John’s Catholic Church, the Iowa Heart Center, or the Iowa Kidney Foundation.
