Posted June 19, 2014 in Web Exclusives

One June 18th, 2014, Emily Saunders received Iowa’s highest honor in volunteerism, The Governor’s Volunteer Award. Emily has devoted this year to serving full-time as an AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteer in Service of America) member serving Metro Arts Alliance as Education and Outreach Coordinator.  During her year of service Emily coordinated 129 arts programs in 59 locations with 25 artists teaching 8,744 youth within the community. One way she serves the needs of the community with the arts is by reaching out to schools and coordinating arts integration experiences for youth.

“After graduating with my master’s degree in arts management, I wanted to give back by helping make the arts more accessible in my home state of Iowa.”

Kim Poam Logan, Executive Director of Metro Arts, says of Saunders “She is an invaluable part of our lean staff and takes on many responsibilities to help make the arts accessible to Central Iowans. We thank Emily for her dedication to our organization and program participants.”
