Summer reading

The summer reading programs at the library are in full force with reading rewards and interesting programs for kids, teens and adults. Stop in today to get started.

Upcoming programs
Local Author Visit – Linda Fortune: Wednesday, June 25 at 6:30 p.m. Linda Fortune will share the writing process for her first children’s book, “Make Way for Rodney.” The illustrator of the book, Tim Janicki, will join her.
Movies: “Frozen” (PG), Tuesday, July 15, 6 p.m. Popcorn, drinks and frozen treats provided. All ages welcome.
Book Discussion: “Little Wolves” by Thomas Maltman, Tuesday, June 24 , noon. The title for July 22 is “The Monuments Men by Robert D. Edsel.” Books are available at the checkout desk.
Wild Edibles of the Midwest: Monday, July 7 at 6:30 p.m. Mike Krebill will give an introduction and samples ahead of the class he will teach for Legacy Learning Boone River Valley. July 8-10.
Gardening Program: Thursday, July 17, 6:30 p.m.  Presented by Yvonne McCormick, ISU Extension horticulturist.
Armchair Travel – Antarctica:  Tuesday, July 29, 6:30 p.m. Mark Dohms shares his visit to Antarctica with slides of the journey, the land and the wildlife.

Teen programming
Teen Tuesdays: Every Tuesday in June and July, 3:30-5:30 p.m. Snacks, games, laptops and activities. All teens (entering grades six-12) are welcome.
Teen Summer Reading Party: Thursday, July 31, 5:30-7:30 p.m. Teens who read six or more hours during June and July receive a ticket to the party.

Children’s programming
Preschool Storytime: Tuesdays, 11-11:30 a.m., June 24 – July 29. Ages 3-6 years and have not attended kindergarten.
Mad Science Club: Mondays, 6-7 p.m., June 23-July 28. Ages (finished) kindergarten – (finished) fourth grade.
Fizz-alators: Thursdays, 1:30-2:30 p.m., June 26 – July 31.  Ages (finished) kindergarten – (finished) fourth grade.
Rocket Man Bob Windt: Monday, June 30, 6-7:15 p.m. Build a pop bottle rocket at this hands-on program. Ages (finished) kindergarten – (finished) fourth grade.  Parents are welcome to come and help. Please bring a two-liter bottle.
Des Moines Science Center: Monday, July 14, 6 p.m.  Kids and families welcome.
Balloon Sculpting Class: Wednesday, July 23, 4 p.m. For ages (finished) second grade and up. Please pre-register.
Family Magic Show: Wednesday, July 23, 6 p.m.
