Milton T. McDonald, 102, of 3801 Grand Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa passed away Friday, May 23, 2014. Milton was born in El Tigre, Mexico on February 18, 1912 to Glen and Lucia McDonald. He moved with his family back to the United States and eventually to Iowa. He was a graduate of Iowa State University with a degree in Electrical Engineering. In 1942, Milton volunteered to serve in the US Army as an officer of the Signal Corps. He was sent to Great Britain, and was first attached to the Royal Air Force as a radar specialist. After the Normandy invasion his unit provided support for the 1st Tactical Air Command in the European theater until the end of the war.

Milton lived and worked in Des Moines, Iowa as a consulting engineer for the Brown Engineering Company. 1n 1953 he married Mary Patricia Walsh also of Des Moines. Milton and Mary had two children, both sons, Mike and Andy.

Milton was very devoted to his family. Milton, Mary and their children had many wonderful years together. Milton especially enjoyed sailing, fishing, was an avid tennis player and loved classical music and round dancing. He was a parishioner at St. Augustin’s Catholic Church and a Boy Scout Master for Troop 36.

In 1994 Mary preceded him in death. Milton was fortunate enough to find love once again and in 1995 he married Gertrude “Mickey” Gilligan. They enjoyed fourteen years together. Mickey passed in 2010. Milton is survived by his sons Michael McDonald (Beth) and Andrew McDonald (Katherine). Visitation will be held at Dunn’s Funeral Home on Monday, May 26 from 3:00 – 5:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Augustin’s Church Chapel at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, May 27, 2014.
