The fun is heating up

Posted May 21, 2014 in Altoona, Community Featured

The children’s summer reading theme is “Fizz, Boom, Read,” and it promises to be full of experiments, exploration and excitement. Children from birth to fifth grade will receive a reading log to track each day they spend time reading or being read to during June and July to win a cool prize.

There will be weekly activities that kids can complete to be entered to win even more prizes.  You won’t want to miss these scavenger hunts, I Spy, quirky quizzes, estimation stations, and more.

Grades 6-12 are also encouraged to “Spark a Reaction” during the teen summer reading program.  We will be mixing science, fiction and fun during this summer long series of events. Teens and tweens who register for the program will receive a prize pass keychain that can be used to gather punches throughout the summer by checking out library items and attending programs. Prize punches can be redeemed for cool rewards and all completed passes will be entered into the drawings for grand prizes including shirts, backpacks and much more.
The kickoff for all the fun will be Saturday, May 31 from 10 a.m. to noon for children up through fifth grade and 1-3 p.m. for grades six through 12.  There will be games and an inflatable, plus your first chance to register for the summer programs.
