Steven W. Shaw 75 passed away on Friday May 16, 2014 in Woodstock, IL. He was born October 14, 1938 in Omaha, NE to Willard Lee Shaw and Thelma Marie Wolfe Shaw. Steve grew up and attended school in Malvern, IA and graduated from Malvern High School in 1956. Steve attended the University of Iowa, University of Kansas City and Morningside College in Sioux City, IA.
In 1959, Steve went to work for Younkers, where he served in various capacities in Omaha, Sioux City and Des Moines, including Divisional Vice-President in Des Moines. He was also past president of the Younker 20 year club in Des Moines. Steve retired from Younkers and joined Iowa Realty as a residential Real Estate agent in 1995 in the Des Moines area. In 2000, he joined H & R Block as a seasonal Tax Professional working for several years until moving to Woodstock IL in 2011.
While residing in Sioux City, Steve was a member of the Iowa National Guard and the Sioux City Junior Chamber of Commerce, where he served a term as treasurer. While working for Younkers in Des Moines, Steve was a member of the Des Moines Chamber of Commerce and a board member of the Better Business Bureau. He was a past member of the Westside Breakfast Club as well as a member of the Urbandale Little League Board of Directors. While coaching baseball in Urbandale he was very proud to coach many young men, including two teams that won district tournaments. Steve and his wife, Dianne lived in Urbandale from 1972 until moving to Woodstock, IL in 2011 to be near family.
Steve is survived by his wife, Dianne; son, Jeffrey (Michelle) Shaw of Lake Villa, IL and John (Kristy) Shaw of Lake in the Hills, IL; two grandchildren, Logan and Stefanie; mother-in-law, Virginia Rosner of Rogers, Ark and sister-in-law, Lucinda Summers of Lebanon, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to Urbandale little league and online condolences are welcome at www.ilescares.com
Visitation will be held at Iles Westover Chapel from 5-7pm on Tuesday May 21, 2014. A Vigil service with a time to share memories will follow, beginning at 7. Cremation rites will follow and private burial at a later date.
