William Dean Wilson, 67 of Kelley, Iowa, passed away surrounded by his family on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Visitation will be Thursday, May 15 from 5:00-8:00 pm at Fjeldberg Lutheran Church in Huxley, Iowa. Funeral services will be Friday, May 16 at 10:30 am at Fjeldberg Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery south of Ames.
Bill was born in Algona, Iowa on September 15, 1946 to Clyde and Marilyn (McClain) Wilson. He graduated from Ballard High School in 1964. Bill attended the University of Northern Iowa. After taking two years off from college to serve in the Marine Corps, Bill came back to Iowa and married Peggy Severson on December 27, 1969. He went on to graduate from the University of Northern Iowa in 1970 with a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Technology. Bill worked for Oscar Meyer in Davenport and Perry, American Packaging Company in Story City, and for Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames before retiring in September of 2011. Bill enjoyed watching his nine grandchildren’s activities, farming, golf, sports card collecting, and traveling (especially cruising). Bill also enjoyed ushering for Iowa State football games for approximately 40 years. He was a member of Fjeldberg Lutheran Church in Huxley, the American Legion, the Marine Corps League, and the Ballard Golf and Country Club.
Bill is survived by his wife of 44 years, Peggy, their three children, Matthew (Erin) of Slater and grandchildren Cole, Cade and Carley; Marc (Diana) of Johnston and grandchildren Joe, Aubrey and Mick, and Melanie (Nic) Hermann of Huxley and grandchildren Ashton, Jaxon and Kya; his mother, Marilyn Wilson of Kelley, his brother John (Shannan) Wilson of Laguna Niguel, California, and his three sisters, Shirley (Everett) Ihle and Connie (Don) Harris, both of Huxley, and Barb (Steve) Kaltenheuser of Kelley; brother and sister-in-laws, Dennis and Sue Severson and Sharyn and Mark Erickson both of Huxley, Becky and Mike Long of Ankeny, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
