Dean Robert Kruse, age 50, of Lidderdale, IA, passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2014 unexpectedly in Carroll, IA.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, March 28, 2014 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lidderdale with Pastor William Weiss officiating. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Thursday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Friday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Organist for the service will be Sylvia Streufert. Casket bearers will be Dean’s nieces and nephews. Honorary casket bearers will be Dean’s co-workers and staff at Haley’s Equipment. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery near Lidderdale. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Dean’s name and memorials may be left at the funeral home or the church.
Born on May 20, 1963 in Lake City, IA, he was the son of Elmer and Kathryn (Whinery) Kruse. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lidderdale. Dean grew up on his family’s farm three miles south of Lidderdale and attended Carroll Community Schools graduating from Carroll High School in 1981. He then attended Iowa Lakes Community College in Emmetsburg and graduated with a degree in diesel mechanics. After college he worked for Rueter and Zenor in Grand Junction and later Irlbeck Repair in Dedham as a mechanic. Dean has worked for Haley’s Equipment in Carroll for the past 20 years. He started in 1994 as a mechanic and became service manager in 2004. Dean was very knowledgeable about farming, farm equipment and farm technology. He had a kind warm heart and was always willing to help customers, family, and friends in any way he could. He had served on the Lidderdale Fire Department and the Lidderdale First Responders. He enjoyed fixing old tractors, reading, music, movies and being up to date on the latest technology regarding cars, motors, and computers. Dean enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Dean is survived by three brothers: Larry Kruse of Elkhorn, NE, and Duane Kruse and his wife Deb of rural Glidden, and Ron Kruse and his wife Yanna of Yuma, AZ; two nieces: Keri Garrison and her husband Dan of Knoxville, IA, and Nicole Kruse of Tyngsboro, Mass; seven nephews: Kim Kruse of Knoxville, IA, Marc Kruse and his wife Ashley of Reedsburg, WI, Brad Kruse of Burnsville, MN, Brian Kruse and his wife Lisa of St. Louis, MO, Karl Kruse and his wife Stacy of Falls Church, VA, Noah Kruse of Yuma, AZ, and Luke Kruse of Yuma, AZ, one great niece: Maggy; four great nephews: Austin, Caden, Ashton, and Owen; and his aunts, uncles, and cousins.
