What a winter this has been! I’d like to spend this whole column complaining about it, but we’ve all lived it every day, and I’m sure we all feel the same — enough already!
We certainly experienced cold temperatures and a few snow flurries during the Chamber Chill on Saturday, March 1, but we had many people show up and complete the 5K. The participants can check “first 5K of year” off their lists. Not one person at the Chamber Chill mentioned being ready for more snow and cold temperatures as they crossed the finish line with frozen eyelashes. I’m sure everyone will agree, it’s time to turn the corner and start experiencing some warmer temperatures so the ground can thaw and our soil can welcome the rain that will surely come this spring.
As the weather starts to change, the days will grow longer and the breezes from the south will encourage us to start thinking of warmer days ahead. What are your plans for the spring and summer? The Chamber has a lot of fun activities coming up this spring and summer that you and your company can get involved in.
The Chamber Spring Golf Outing is June 11. Pencil that day in, and plan to get a foursome together to do a little golfing and a lot of networking all while having fun and exposing your business to the hundreds of people who participate.
Looking to volunteer this summer? We are always looking for volunteers for SummerFest (July 10 – 13). It takes about 500 volunteers to organize and run SummerFest. If you enjoy SummerFest and want to take it to the next level, join the fun and volunteer!
The Ankeny Chamber works hard to help provide a great quality of life for our members. It is a part of our mission statement and appeals to our members as well as the general public. With everything from the chilly Chamber Chill to the hot and sweaty SummerFest to the festive Christmas Luncheon (and everything in between), we work hard to provide opportunities for our community members and business members alike. In addition, the Ankeny Chamber of Commerce has scholarships available to enhance the quality of life for students and adult learners. Contact the Chamber to learn how to apply.
So as the weather warms, think about joining us for any of the above events and interact with the community and your fellow Chamber members, because it will translate in to more exposure for you personally and for your business. All employees, at any level, can get involved.
Until warm weather arrives, I hope to see you at an upcoming event. Check the Chamber website at www.ankeny.org to learn more about what’s happening at the Chamber. In the meantime, if there is anything I can do to help any of our members, please feel free to contact me.
