Charlotte Gayle (Cully) Rothfus, 93 of Carlisle passed away Sunday, March 16, 2014, at The Shores, in Pleasant Hill. Born May 7, 1920 in Des Moines, Iowa, she was the second of 7 children of Charles and Hazel Cully. She was married to Howard H. Rothfus on July 2nd, 1938. They had 4 children and lived on a farm West of Carlisle, Iowa. They farmed, truck gardened and had a roadside stand for many years. Gayle was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Hazel; husband, Howard, brothers; Clifford and Wayne, sisters; Wilma, Betty, Carolyn, and sister-in-law Donna (Don) Cully. Gayle is survived by her sons; LeRoy (Betty), Richard (friend Sue), Roland (Virlane), and daughter Nancy Allen, 14 Grandchildren, 26 Great grandchildren, and 8 Great-Great grandchildren, brother Donald Cully and sister-in-laws Wilma Rothfus and Doris Cully. She was a devoted housewife and mother. She liked to do needlework, ceramics and painting. She also enjoyed being a winter Texan for many years with LeRoy and Betty. Visitation for Charlotte Gayle will be from 10-11 a.m. on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at Peterson Funeral Home in Carlisle. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow services in the Avon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to The Shores.
