March comes in like a… library?

As the weather (hopefully) starts to turn warmer in March, we hope you’ll remember to stop by the library as you venture out for the thaw. For more information about the programs listed below (and others we didn’t have room to list), visit our website at and click on “Calendar.”

Programs for kids
Drop-In Oliver’s Tales Story Times. Wednesday mornings at 9:30 a.m. Children of all ages are welcome to join us for these action-filled, interactive story times complete with music and movement. No registration required.

Lego Club. Second and fourth Wednesdays, 3:45 p.m. Children 5 to 12 enjoy designing, building, comparing and playing with their Lego creations. Legos are provided, but registration is required. Call 515-222-3405 to register or register online at and

Drop-in Family Story time. Friday mornings at 10:30 a.m. Bring the kids (and yourself) for stories, songs and motion activities. All ages welcome, no registration required.

Spring Break Movie Madness. Tuesday, March 18 at 1:30 p.m. We can’t tell you the title for legal reasons, but here’s a hint: It’s a very popular animated version of Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Snow Queen” that just came out in the last six months. Rhymes with “chosen.” No registration required.

Ballooning 101 Thursday, March 20 at 1:30 p.m.. Kids 7-12  learn to make balloon creations of all kinds, from hats and wands to animals and more. Taught by Christine Carroll of Pink Stew Entertainment. Call 515-222-3405 to register or register online at

Teen programs
Teen Craft Night. Melted Crayon Craft, Thursday, March 27, 6 – 8 p.m. Join us for an evening program full of crafting goodness. This month’s craft: Melted Crayon Art. Learn how to make your own melted crayon masterpiece. Program is for teens age 12 and older. To register, call 515-222-3403 or register online at

Adult programs
Writer’s Club. Second and fourth Saturdays of the month. For accomplished or aspiring writers — any writing style, any genre. Informal meetings, writing exercises, sharing work and constructive criticism are all part of the “program.” Call 515-222-3413 for more information.

Social Security: Seven Keys to Enhancing Your Benefits. Thursday, March 20, 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. In this program designed for Baby Boomers planning for retirement, West Des Moines financial advisor Curt Fett shares possible strategies for  making sure retirees get what’s coming to them.
