With the winter sports coming to an end and the weather hopefully starting to improve, it won’t be long until track season begins. Our brand new middle school track is ready to go and the junior high track teams will practice there after school. Practice is scheduled to start before spring break, which is March 17th. The home track meets will still be held at Dodger Stadium on April 15th and 22nd for the girls and boys respectively.
We anticipate a large number of participants in junior high track again this year. A parent meeting will be held in the FDMS cafeteria at 5:00 p.m. on March 27th, so the parents can meet with the individual coaches. Track is a great opportunity for students to get in shape and have fun with their teammates.
School Athletic Physicals for next year’s athletes will be held on March 13th at the Senior High School gymnasium at 5:00pm. If your child is in the musical come out to the high school early and we will push you to the front of the line. The cost is $15 and this will insure that your child will be ready to go next season. Every fall it seems that students, especially new 8th graders, can’t participate right away because they haven’t had a physical yet. If you take advantage of this opportunity on March 13th, that will be one less thing to worry about next fall. The physicals are available for all current 7th through 12th grade students. The proceeds from the physicals go to offset the cost of having an athletic trainer on our staff.
Track, and extra-curricular activities in general, are a great way for students to be involved in their school. They also learn valuable life lessons from participation in extra-curricular activities. We hope you will encourage your child to find and follow his/her passion as a way to get involved in school.
