Spring is in the air

Posted March 05, 2014 in Adel, Community Featured

After a long, cold winter, the beginning of March means that spring is almost here. With spring comes the beginning of the Adel Chamber’s 2014 Festival Season, including the Free Friday Entertainment Series, All Iowa Wine Festival, and Sweet Corn Festival.

The start of the festival season is the Free Friday Entertainment Series. Every third Friday from April to August, Adel Partners Chamber of Commerce, along with other local sponsors, will host free community stage events. These events will be BYOB — that’s Bring Your Own Basket of snacks, food, regular or adult beverages. No food or drinks will be sold, but you are encouraged to pick up dinner from a local restaurant before the show begins. All events are from 7 – 10 p.m. and are family-friendly. Make sure to bring your friends and family to the Adel Stage located at the corner of 10th and Main, and don’t forget your lawn chairs.

The first event in the series is on Friday, April 25 and features Des Moines Karaoke. This is your chance to be part of the entertainment. It is open to everyone, and to help get the fun going we are offering prizes for two age groups: ages 17 and younger and ages 18 and older. We will be offering $100 for first prize, $50 for second prize, and $25 for third prize in each category. A special thank you to Adel Kiwanis for co-sponsoring this event.

All Iowa Wine Festival
The All Iowa Wine Festival is an annual event celebrating the works of Iowa’s vineyards. Hosted at the Adel Community Stage at 10th and Main, this event offers wine, food, music and a relaxed atmosphere to sample a wide variety of local wines.  We hope that you will join us on Saturday, June 21, from 4 – 9 p.m.

Sweet Corn Festival
The largest event of the season is the 35th Annual Adel Sweet Corn Festival scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 9. Planning for this event began last September and is well underway. One of the largest parts of the festivals is the vendors. We are currently accepting applications for food, craft, art and information vendors. If you or someone you know is interested in being a vendor at this year’s festival, which attracts more than 12,000 visitors, please contact the Chamber office at 993-5472 or for an application packet. Applications are due by April 30 and space is limited, so be sure to apply early.
