Betty Lou Peter, age 86, of rural Boone, passed away Friday, February 21, 2014 at Westhaven Community in Boone.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 26, at Walter ~ Schroeder Funeral Home at Fifth & Story Streets in Boone from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with family present from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Visitation will continue Thursday at the funeral home from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. then at the church from 12:00 p.m. to the time of service.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, February 27, 2014 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 281 Spruce Lane, rural Boone, with Pastor Michael Standfest officiating.
Burial will be in the St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, next to the church.
Betty was born on September 13, 1927 in Harrison Township, Boone County, Iowa, the daughter of Eugene Harry and Elsie Barbara (Krumm) Eckley. Betty attended St. Paul’s Parochial School and graduated from Stanhope High School in 1945.
Betty was married to Hubert Henry Peter on June 20, 1948 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
She worked as an employee at Barsted Bakery, Arnold Motor and Druggist Mutual Insurance. Then she worked in the accounting department at Montgomery Ward. She spent the last 22 years of her working career as a partner with her husband, Hubert who owned the Stanhope Locker Meat Processing Plant.
Betty was an active member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in the Ladies Aide and church choir. Betty always liked to volunteer helping her husband at Lions Club events and enjoyed baking Kringla, growing flowers, crocheting, needle point, sewing and spending time with her grandchildren.
Betty is preceded by her parents; her twin infant sisters Dorothy M. and Anna M. her brother Harlan Eckley and her two sisters-in-law Lois Eckley and Betty Eckley.
Betty is survived by her husband Hubert Peter of rural Boone; her son Terry L. Peter and friend Sue of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; her daughter Karla Lippert and her friend Tim of Bonita Springs, Florida; her 5 grandchildren, Nathan Peter, Michael Peter, Lauren Peter, Sara Lippert and John Lippert; her 2 great grandchildren, Tallulah Peter and Paloma Peter and numerous nephews and nieces.
In memory of Betty, memorials may be made to the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
