AMES, IA, FEBRUARY, 2014: Area high-school students present the acclaimed play “David & Lisa” for one weekend of performances February 28 – March 2, 2014 at Zeke’s in Ames.
This inaugural all-teen show will be presented one weekend only and is part of an expanded program of Story Theater Company’s popular teen theater club that meets monthly during the school year and weekly during the summer. In this unique opportunity, students from Ames, Ballard, Boone, Stratford, Story City and Gilbert form a “troupe” and come together to create a special night of theater at the West Ames venue.
The play follows David, a young man with severe OCD who is afraid to be touched, and a teenage girl, Lisa, who suffers from a split personality. Based on the novel by eminent psychiatrist Theodore Isaac Rubin and the award-winning film of the same name, the drama brings laughter, heartbreak and suspense to an ultimately uplifting story.
Performances will be held at 7 pm on February 28 and March 1st with a matinee performance at 2 pm on March 2. All performances will be held at Zeke’s, 3329 Lincoln Way in Ames. Advance tickets may be purchased at Capanna Coffee adjacent to Zekes for $6. Tickets will also be available at the door for $6 for students, $8 for adults. Because of the nature of the show, it is recommended for ages 13 and above.
The production is made possible through grants from the City of Ames through the Commission on the Arts, The Alliant Energy Foundation, The Ames Community Grant Program, and individual sponsors from a youth-run Indiegogo campaign.
