The City of Webster City has been awarded a $2,250.00 project grant from the Power of Trees Program sponsored by Black Hills Energy and Trees Forever. Power of Trees is a three way partnership between Black Hills Energy, Trees Forever, and the City of Webster City to plant trees that will be beneficial in blocking and redirectlng cold winter winds, and thus reduce winter heating use.
Webster City will be using this money to assist property owners in planting new trees in the City right of way area. Specifically, this will be to replace the Ash Trees that have been recently removed due to the Emerald Ash Tree Borer problem that has already started in Iowa.
For more information on this tree program, please contact Kent Harfst at the Fuller Hall Recreation Center at 832-9193.
In addition to this program, we are starting to plan for our Annual Tree Planting Day in Webster City on Saturday, April 26. This was started in 2000 to celebrate both Arbor Day and Earth Day. This year we will be planting approximately 400 small tree seedlings along the Boone River as part of the reforestation project.
Remember: only 50 days until Spring Have a great week.
