Rolland D. “Tuffy” Swallow, 96, was called to his heavenly home Tuesday, January 21, 2014.

Tuffy was born August 9, 1917 in Waukee, Iowa. He graduated from Dallas Center Schools in 1935. He worked at Brenton Bank, DC Mill, Swallow Standard Station and various farms before he served four years in the U.S. Army Air Force and was deployed to Africa during WWII.

June 8, 1941 he married Elva Reiste and they started farming upon his return from the service. They remained there for 62 years before moving to Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center.  Tuffy demonstrated his faith in God, hard work ethic, importance of family and friends, and always with a positive attitude.

Celebration of Life Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 25 at the Panther Creek Church of the Brethren near Adel with burial at the Church of the Brethren Cemetery.

Friends may call after 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the church where family will greet friends until services begin.

Tuffy is survived by his wife Elva of 72 years, son John (Renee), daughter Linda (Vic) Mitchell, 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and many extended family & friends.

An infant daughter, Marla Jane, a granddaughter Marjorie Louise and a brother Nile Swallow precede him.
