DES MOINES, Iowa – January 21, 2014 – Iowa’s Healthiest State Initiative will showcase five top priorities at the Iowa State Capitol in Des Moines this Thursday, January 23rd.
“Improving Iowa’s well-being is only possible by working together,” said board chairman, Ric Jurgens. “This expo gives a few of the many organizations a chance to share their work with Iowa’s legislators and demonstrate what’s possible when we all work together.” Jurgens said the expo will feature representatives from 17 Iowa businesses, non-profit organizations and county health departments working in partnership with the Initiative, leading Iowa’s efforts to become #1 in well-being.
The event kicks off at 8:30am with the arrival of the Hy-Vee Healthy You wellness bus stationed near the West Terrace of the Capitol Grounds. Indoor events begin at 10:30am in the Rotunda of the Capitol and conclude at 1:30pm.
Legislators, staff and visitors are also invited to take in a little “recess before lunch” and join Representative Mark Smith, Senator Pam Jochum, Fuel Up to Play 60 Student Ambassador, Rachel Byl and Healthiest State Initiative 2014 Walk Chair, Terry Rich in a brisk 15-minute indoor legislative walk beginning at 11:45am just outside the chamber doors on the 2nd floor. The walk is the first Healthiest State Initiative Endorsed Event – a program announced last week to increase the visibility of healthy events throughout Iowa.
The Healthiest State Initiative is a privately led, public effort that engages Iowans and their communities throughout the state. It involves individuals, families, businesses, faith-based organizations, not-for-profits and the public sector in a broad-based, community-focused effort.
