Mass of Christian Burial for Nicholas James Smith, 33 of Windsor Heights, Iowa will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 25, 2014 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Perry, Iowa. Father Paul Nguyen will officiate the service. Kathy Wade will be the organist and Zachery Williams will be the soloist. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Derek Draisey, Tom Detrick, Henry Seiler, Larry Smith, Brad Smith, Corey Smith, Jeff Smith, Adam Haar, Kelly Price and Kirk Wright. Pallbearers will be: Cory Myers, Michael Peterson, Dylan Cunningham, Josiah Vodenik, Adam Greimann, Mike Strand, Kevin Mccolly and Zach Stone. Burial will be in Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry. Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. Friday, January 24, 2014 at Murdock Funeral Home. Visitation will resume at 4 p.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church with family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m. with a Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m.. To honor Nick, you can wear Iowa Hawkeye attire at visitation. Nicholas passed away January 16, 2014 in a tragic car accident in Windsor Heights.
Nick was born July 3, 1980 in Jefferson, IA to Chuck and Myrna Smith. He graduated from Perry High School in 1999. At the time of his death, he was head custodian at Northeast Elementary School in Ankeny, IA. Nick was an avid Hawkeye fan and was a role model for health and fitness. Nick was a loving son, brother, uncle and best friend to everyone he knew.
He is survived by his parents, two sisters April (Kirk) Wright of Ankeny, IA Toni Smith of Overland Park, KS, brother Steve (Anna) Smith of Des Moines, IA, 2 nephews Connor and Seth, and 3 nieces, Kiley, Aubrey and Ella, as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his brother Charles J. Smith Jr., sister Lynda Faye Smith on June 4, 1988, grandparents Lawrence and Bridget Smith and Edwin and Mary Mino.
