October 30, 1918 – January 16, 2014
Molly Koufer Sandler, 95, died at home on January 16, 2014, of natural causes. A memorial service will be held at Tifereth Israel Synagogue, 924 Polk Boulevard, Sunday, January 19, at 11 a.m., following a private burial at Jewish Glendale Cemetery.
A lifelong resident of Des Moines, Molly was born October 30, 1918, to Russian immigrants William and Fannie Koufer. She was a graduate of North High School, worked at RKO Pictures and later married Robert Sandler in 1941. They enjoyed spending time with their friends in Des Moines, especially “The Hawaii Group.” And for over 35 years, were grateful to spend winters in their home in Palm Springs.
Molly was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, and her brother, Mike Koufer. She is survived by those who were her greatest joy: daughters, Joanie (Richard) Jacobson of Omaha, Janie Zemel of Tulsa, and Julie (Cary) Sacks of Pacific Palisades; grandchildren, Carrie, Maggie, Abby, Becca, Elliott and Julian; great-grandchildren, Ella and Emmet; and grandsons-in-law, Eric, Donnie and Jed.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be sent to her favorite charity, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, or a charity of choice.
