Raymond D. Whitmore, 81, passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2014, at the Madrid Home, in Madrid, following several strokes. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 13, 2014, at First Presbyterian Church, located at 410 S. 3rd Street in Grimes. Burial with military honors will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, at Fairview Cemetery, north of Madrid.
Raymond was born on May 2, 1932, in Boulder, CO, to George Pease and Hazel Osha (Andrews) Whitmore. When he was one year old, the family moved from Colorado to a farm west of Madrid. Raymond was a 1950 graduate of Madrid High School. He served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955, during the Korean Conflict. Raymond was a member of the Woodward American Legion. In 1957, he married Marilyn M. Dudley at Manson, IA, and they were blessed with two sons, Craig and Kurt. Raymond spent his working years at jobs requiring his various engineering talents. In 1994, he retired from Delavan as an Electronic Engineer.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Whitmore; one son, Craig (Dori Bigner) Whitmore; four sisters, Ethel Robinett, Ramona Bracht, Jeannie Whitman and Susan Severino; one grandson, Joshua; and several nieces, nephews and friends. Raymond was preceded in death by one son, Kurt; his parents; one sister, Madeline Kindwall; and three brothers, Charlie, Robert and John Whitmore.
The family will greet friends from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, January 12, at Iles Sundberg-Kirkpatrick Chapel in Madrid.
