Shirley Holte, age 84, of 1209 Crawford Street, died January 10, 2014, at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.
She has been cremated and a Memorial Service will be Saturday, January 18, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall with Rev. Carla Werre officiating. Burial of her cremains will be at a later date.
Shirley May Holte was born in Boone on November 16, 1929, the daughter of Guy and May (Upham) DuGan.
She graduated from Boone High School in 1948.
On August 30, 1947, she married Ralph Holte in Jackson, Minnesota.
Shirley worked as a pharmacy technician at the former Deuel Drug in Boone and also at the Boone County Hospital and Hy-Vee Drug.
Shirley was a member of AARP, Foster Grandparents, and an Alzheimer’s support group.
She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, sewing, and repairing and custom sewing for her dolls.
She thoroughly enjoyed being a Foster Grandparent and being with the children.
Shirley loved cooking for her family who never left her house hungry.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister Faye, and a stepsister Lois Johnson.
Shirley is survived by a daughter Becky Berrett and husband Ron of Huxley; five grandchildren, Jennifer Dolan and husband Mark of Carver, Minnesota, Matt Elsberry of Des Moines, Jeff Elsberry and wife Melissa Alley, and Chris Berrett, all of Ames, and Lisa Van De Pol of Ankeny; ten great-grandchildren, Natalie, Lindsay, and Jessie Dolan of Carver, Minnesota, Ava and Lauren Elsberry of Johnston and their mother Susan Halsne, Emma, Reese, and Delaynee Elsberry of Ames, and Marisa and Mason Van De Pol of Ankeny; two special great-grandchildren Tia Schall and Austin Lindahl of Mitchellville; and Shirley’s son Ron Holte.
Friends may call at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel on Saturday from 9 a.m. until service time.
