Bette Bluml, age 87, of Carroll passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll with Fr. Timothy Johnson as Celebrant. An honor guard will be formed at the church by the Catholic Daughters. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 3:30 P.M. on Tuesday where there will be a Rosary by the Catholic Daughters at 4:30 P.M. and a Christian Wake Service at 6:30 P.M. by Holy Spirit Parish. The casket will be moved to the church at 9:00 A.M. on Wednesday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Lector for the Mass will be Ron Dunphy and Eucharistic Ministers will be Terry Kasperbauer, Dorothy Dunphy, and Judy Feld. Gift bearers will be Bette’s daughters-in-law: Sharla, Linda, and Shirlee Bluml. Mass servers will be Brandon Baumhover and Tage Henkelman and music for the Mass will be by Barb McDermott and the Holy Spirit Choir. Casket bearers will be Chad and Corey Bluml, Ashley Bluml, Shelly Tapps, Alice Brown, and Tom Kasperbauer. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.

Born on July 6, 1926 on the family farm south of Carroll, she was the daughter of Otto and Rose (Hoffman) Kasperbauer. Bette was a lifelong resident of Carroll. She attended S.S. Peter and Paul Catholic School and graduated from St. Angela Academy. She was married to Otto Bluml on February 11, 1947 at S.S. Peter and Paul Church in Carroll by Msgr. Schenkelberg. The couple lived in Lake City for a short time and moved back to Carroll where they raised their four children. Bette worked for Noland’s Department Store before she took nurse’s aide training at St. Angela’s Academy of Nursing. She worked at St. Anthony Regional Hospital for 31 years in several departments. She was a member of Holy Spirit Parish and the Holy Spirit Women’s Guild. Bette was a 50 year member of the Catholic Daughters of which she was a Past Region and she was a past Senior Counselor of the Ladies United Commercial Travelers. Bette enjoyed family life, she liked to cook, play Bridge, read, and follow the Chicago Cubs.

Bette is survived by her three children: a son Dwight Bluml and his wife Sharla of Arcadia, a son Dean Bluml and his wife Shirlee of Omaha, Ne, and a daughter Dawn Bluml of Carroll; a daughter-in-law Linda Bluml of Carroll; three grandchildren: Ashley Bluml of Dubuque and Chad and Corey Bluml of Halbur; and a sister-in-law Inez Kasperbauer of Carroll. Bette was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Otto in 2006, her son Duane “Tony” Bluml in 2011, two brothers: Andy and Jack Kasperbauer, and four sisters: Loretta Venteicher, Rose Sondgeroth, Annie Kasperbauer, and Lucille Lasher.
