May 13, 1951 – January 9, 2014
ames Allen English, age 62 of Rathbun, Iowa passed away at Mercy Medical Center on Thursday January 9, 2014.
James was born on May 13, 1951 in Moline, Illinois and was raised in Des Moines, Iowa. He worked as a railroad engineer for Union Pacific Railroad for 32 years upon retiring in 2011. James was a member of the FOE Eagles in Centerville and a newly elected city council member for the City of Rathbun. His kids thought of him as the greatest dad ever and his friends thought of him as a fun and happy person
James enjoyed spending time in his man cave, “Pirates Cove,” where he had weekly card games with the “boys” or watched Iowa or Iowa State football, NFL games, Nascar racing, American Pickers, the History Channel, old black and white movies on AMC, and any channel that had fishing or cooking shows. He loved to tinker and always tried to create a new invention from things he learned watching You Tube. James was an avid lover of the outdoors especially around lakes, and took a fishing trip to Lake Erie in 2013. He enjoyed gardening where he tried to grow monster tomatoes, huge peppers, and massive potatoes. He loved working on cars, especially his pride and joy, his 55 Chevy pickup. James was famous for his secret recipe of jerky, whether it was pork, beef, deer, duck, or cat fish. He was always willing to try anything once.
James will be missed for his astonishing DABS of firewood he sold in the summer to campers and to visitors of Lake Rathbun. He was always a lending hand to anyone who needed it such as family and friends, old and new. There wasn’t anyone James couldn’t start a conversation with and make him or her, his new friend. His “old” friends are the ones that meant the most to him along with his family.
James is survived by his wife Sheena English and special dogs Murphy and Daisy of Rathbun, mother Opal English of Marshalltown, daughter Stacey (Mark) Gunderson of Marshalltown, daughter Jenifer English of Marshalltown, son Brian English of Montour, IA, step-daughter Lindsay Worden of Hampton, step-son Michael (Sheila) Norman of Pella, grandchildren Chase and Madelyn Gunderson of Marshalltown, sister Mary Lou (Randy) Doig of Marshalltown, brother Dan (Deloris) Taylor of Marshalltown, brother Roy (Linda) Taylor of Brownsville, Texas, brother David Taylor of California, and many nieces and nephews.
James was preceded in death by his father Harry English and his sister Donna Mae Birt.
