Guy Donald Arringdale, age 90, of Boone, passed away Monday, January 6, 2014, at the Eastern Star Masonic Home.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, January 11, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets with Jack Martz presiding.
A private interment of his cremains will be in the Linwood Park Cemetery at a later date.
Guy “Gus” Arringdale was born May 31, 1923, to John B. and Ida (Tinkham) Arringdale.
As a youngster, he lived in the Jordan area and later moved to Boone and graduated from Boone High School.
Guy married Rose Marie Mediate on November 29, 1947, in Knoxville, Iowa.
They were married for 43 years until her death in 1990.
Following his high school graduation, Guy was employed by the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad where he had numerous jobs.
One of his first positions was selling tickets at the original Boone Depot for passengers traveling coast to coast by rail.
For the last 17 years of his career, he was chief crew dispatcher.
Guy retired in 1984 after serving the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad for over 40 years.
Guy had a flair for writing poetry for his family, collecting railroad memorabilia, attending auctions, and listening to big band music.
His time spent on the farm cultivated a deep love and compassion for animals.
He was a long time member of the Boone Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses where he made many life-long friendships.
Guy is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Rose Marie Arringdale, three sisters, Irene Arringdale, Hazel Arringdale Broadie, Helen Arringdale Aitcheson; and three brothers, John Jr. Arringdale, Burton Arringdale, and Jared (Jerry) Arringdale.
Survivors include three sons and daughter in-laws, Alan and Deborah Arringdale of Boone, David and Jan Arringdale of Ankeny, and Mike and Cher Arringdale of Boone; seven grandchildren, Angela Arringdale Siegfried of Grimes, Nicolas (Nicole) Arringdale of Boone, Courtney Arringdale (Michael) Thul of Des Moines, Shannon Arringdale (Chris) Riggs of St. Louis, Missouri, Joshua Arringdale of Ft. Meyers, Florida, Chris Arringdale (Debbie) of Ankeny, and Heather Arringdale (Kevin) Burke of Grimes; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at Schroeder Memorial Chapel on Saturday from 8 a.m. until service time.
