On an absolutely freezing weekday evening, my husband and I decided to venture out and try the new Tasty Tacos in West Des Moines. There is just something about the cold that makes cooking seem unnecessary and warm, toasty tacos sound absolutely wonderful.
To our surprise, there was quite a line waiting to order at the front counter. With a couple different people taking orders, we found ourselves at the front of the line quickly.
With an extensive menu, it was difficult to decide what to try. I was interested in the flour tostada, the burritos and also the flour tacos. I knew that Tasty Tacos specialized in their homemade flour tortilla and they sounded delicious. I finally decided on the original flour taco with a side of chili and flour chips. It sounded like a great mix full of winter comfort food.
My husband also ordered flour tacos, and we went off to grab our sodas before we sat down at one of the remaining booths. We settled in with our number in tow and waited for our food. We looked around and took in the lively, Mexican themed decor. The feel-good atmosphere, clean, open space and cozy environment made the wait seem quick and easy.
Once our number was called, we grabbed our trays and sat down with lots of hot sauce and napkins on hand. My taco was hot and delicious with just a small kick from the sauce. The flour tortillas really made it unique and much more hearty than an average taco.
My chili was sweet, spicy and great as a dipping sauce for the side of flour chips. I’ll be honest, the chips were pretty great on their own, no dipping necessary. I finished everything quickly and was a bit sad that I hadn’t ordered an additional taco to take home.
My husband also devoured his flour tacos and was sufficiently stuffed by the time we left. We decided to return again soon. Tasty Tacos is a great addition to the West Des Moines area and is a great place for family and friends.
