Our wish for everyone is that 2014 will be a happy, prosperous year with creation of new memories and good health.
Looking back on 2013, we had a busy year and are looking forward to 2014. It looks like it will be just as busy. We will have a new city council, new mayor and a new police chief, so it should be exciting to see what 2014 looked like on Dec. 31.
Norwalk also will be hosting the Home Show in July, so that also will be exciting and a busy time for us.
On Jan. 13 the Greater Des Moines Partnership, along with the area affiliate chambers, will host the Legislative Opening Night reception at the State of Iowa Historical Museum for the 85th Iowa General Assembly. Cost for chamber members is $25/$40 for non-chamber members. You can register at www.desmoinesmetro.com/events. This is a great chance to meet legislators and sample food from area food vendors.
On Jan. 31 the Norwalk Area Chamber of Commerce will be recognizing our banquet honorees, and the public is invited to attend. Winners for the 22nd Chamber annual banquet are:
• Business of the Year: UnityPoint Clinic Norwalk.
• Chamber Member of the Year: Newton Standridge.
• Citizen of the Year: Ed Kuhl.
• Teacher of the Year: Renee McCombs.
• Student of the Year: Tommy Scallon.
Our guest speaker is Steve Pilchin the “Roundguy.” Tickets are $40 each or a table for $310 and should be ordered no later than Friday, Jan. 24 by contacting the Chamber at 981-0619 or emailing to firstname.lastname@example.org. The banquet will be held at Echo Valley Country Club and starts at 6 p.m. Congratulations to our winners.
