Clifford to visit

Clifford the Big Red Dog is coming to the Des Moines Public Library at 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 8 with his friend, Dan Wardell from IPTV. Dan will read stories about Clifford’s adventures. Afterwards children can meet Clifford and take pictures with him.

Pizza and Pages
Monday, Jan. 13, 4 p.m.
Sixth through 12th graders can visit the library and eat pizza while talking about the sci-fi thriller “Found” by Margaret Peterson Haddix. You can find copies of the book and sign up for this program at the information desk.

Beginnings Music for Children
Monday, Jan. 13, 6:30 p.m.
Join Barb Klubal from the Iowa Youth Chorus’ Beginnings Early Childhood Music Program for singing, dancing and instrument playing and learn how music benefits the young child. This program is for children ages 3 to 6 and requires preregistration.

Bring your mobile device (smartphone, tablet or e-reader) to get advice and help installing the library’s apps for e-books, downloadable audiobooks and e-magazines. The class and apps are all free. Your gadget must have basic setup done (out of the box, set up, passwords entered, charged and know the basics) as a prerequisite to this class. You will need your library card and PIN, and you may need the password for your App Store on your device. Pre-register.

Artsy Kids Creating with Clay
Wednesday, Jan. 15, 4 p.m.
Kids in the third through eighth grades should be prepared to get messy as we make interesting and wild creations out of clay. Please preregister for this program.

“The Hundred Dresses” sneak preview

See a sneak preview of the Des Moines Community Playhouse production of “The Hundred Dresses.” This charming story about being kind and standing up to bullying is based on the book by Eleanor Estes. Come and enjoy the performance and sign up to win free tickets to the play.
