Mary Lou Ware age 92, of Carroll died peacefully at Saint Anthony Hospital on Monday, January 6, 2014.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, January 10, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church in Carroll with Rev. Dennis Bailey officiating. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Thursday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M. Organist for the service will be Marilyn Hundling. Honorary pall bearers: Carol Blincow, Verona Fuller, Jody Jones, LaVonne Knauss, Ginny Perschau, Joyce Smith, Sandy Smith, Marie Vonnahme. Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Iowa State University and The Alzheimer’s Accociation and memorials may be left at the funeral home or the church.
Mary Lou was born March 30, 1921 at Chicago, IL, the daughter of Jonathan and Mary Heinrich Springer. She attended school in Trayer, IA, St. Cloud, MN, and Ames, IA and graduated from Ames High School in 1939. She enrolled in Iowa State College, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics in 1943. After graduation, she taught home economics at Colfax High School.
She married Bob Ware in Ames, IA on August 8, 1944. Thereafter she lived in Detroit, MI where Bob was stationed in the US Army. While living in Detroit, she worked for Dayton Hudson stores.
After World War II, Mary Lou and Bob moved to Monmouth, IL where Bob worked for Maple City Dairy. In January 1948, they moved to Carroll, IA where Bob became Manager of Carroll Creamery, which later became Langes Dairy.
Mary Lou was a homemaker, raising four children. She was active in the United Methodist church, serving as the leader of several groups.
Mary Lou had many passions which resulted in her involvement in a number of activities in the Carroll area, including authoring a fashion column for the Times Herald, participating in the Carroll Community Theatre, being an active member in PEO, and a salesperson for Evans on the Alley clothing. Mary Lou loved playing bridge, socializing with friends, and traveling with her family and her husband. She and Bob visited all 49 states in the Continental US.
Survivors include her four children: a daughter Susan Gentilucci and her husband Richard of Glendale, CA; a daughter Martha Eischeid and her husband John of Lincoln, NE; a son Jonathan Ware and his wife Gail of Johnston, IA; a son Robert Ware and his wife Rebecca of Ankeny, IA; eight grandchildren: Kristen Gentilucci of Oakland, CA, Stephanie Eischeid of Lincoln, NE, Nicholas Eischeid and his wife Leilani of Marina Del Rey, CA, Megan Ware of Des Moines, IA, Leslie Ware of Cedar Rapids, IA, Benjamin Ware of Lawrence, KS, Adam Ware and his wife Markeyer of Oceanside, CA, and Rachael Ware of Maryville, MO; two great grandchildren: Markiest Gonzales and Zaryna Ware; one niece, Mary Elizabeth Huey of Cincinnati, OH, and three nephews, Matt Schon of Richmond, VA, and Jim and Bruce Hathaway, of Bethesda, MD.
