Betty Jean (Rose) Eckley, age 82, of Boone, passed away January 4, 2014 at Westhaven Community in Boone. She formerly lived at Candleridge Apartments and on the farm in Harrison Township, Boone County.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 9, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in rural Boone with Rev. Michael Standfest officiating. Interment will be at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, next to the church.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 8, at Walter ~ Schroeder Funeral Home at Fifth & Story Street in Boone from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with the family present from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the Thursday at the church from 9:00 a.m. to the time of service.
Betty was born on March 8, 1931 in Boone, the daughter of Earl and Agnes (Rose) Crouse.
She attended school in Boone and graduated from Boone High School in 1949.
On September 2, 1950, Betty married her high school sweetheart, Harlan H. Eckley in Boone. The couple lived on a farm in Harrison Township, Boone County. Betty was a homemaker and worked at the Episcopal Center and the Eastern Star Masonic Home.
Betty was a member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in rural Boone.
In her early years, she enjoyed gardening, bowling, cooking and playing pinochle. Betty especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Harlan “Dutch”; her sister-in-law Lois Eckley and her brother-in-law DeWayne Hein.
Betty is survived by her daughter Connie Lewis and her husband Al of Urbandale; her daughter Barbara Rasmus and her husband Al of Boone; her son Kent Eckley and his wife Nancy of Boone; her 4 grandchildren Chad Rasmus, Dustin Rasmus (Erin), Valerie Rosser (Tim) and Cassie Croker (Aaron); her 2 step grandchildren Nancy DeCosta (Dennis) and Patrick Lewis; her 5 great-grandchildren Caden Rasmus, Mayci Rasmus, Declan Rasmus, Addalyn Rasmus and Conner Rosser; her 2 step great grandchildren Olivia and Jack DeCosta; her sister Dolores Hein of Boone; her sister Pat Schroeder and her husband Jim of Boone; her brother-in-law Deane E. Eckley of Boone; her sister-in-law Betty Peter and her husband Hubert of Boone and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, in memory of Betty.
