Betty Ann Hennick, 85, of Des Moines passed away December 25, 2013.

Funeral services will be held Monday, 10:30 a.m., December 30, 2013, at Memorial Services of Iowa funeral home (4208 N. Ankeny Blvd.) with burial following at Ankeny Memorial Gardens.

A visitation will be held 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, December 29, 2013, also at the funeral home.

Betty Ann Dennler was born May 28, 1928 in Elgin, IA. She graduated from Alleman High School in 1945. Betty was proud to be a member of the Alleman Girls Basketball team who went to State in her senior year.

On February 21, 1952, Betty married the love of her life, Gordon Hennick. Gordon and Betty had two children, David and Donnette.

Betty and Gordon had lived many years on a Bondurant acreage, where they farmed a few acres raising pigs, sheep, and steers. They also had horses and a mule. During this time, Betty earned money at a local café, cooked for the students of Anderson Elementary, and also gave her time at a day care. She loved the children she cared for and got to know their families in the process. Bondurant was a special time in her life that is still full of so many friends and wonderful memories. They moved into the next phase of their life when they made the move to Des Moines in 1991 to be closer to their grandchildren.

Betty’s greatest joy was her family, especially her grandchildren. She had the gift of hospitality and everyone was always welcome at her table.

Betty is survived by her husband of 61 years, Gordon; her son, David (Diana); her daughter, Donnette (Gary) Grimes; her grandchildren Whitney (Tim) Allie, Chelsie Hennick, Sam Grimes and great-granddaughter, Kinley Allie.

Memorials may be made to American Cancer society.
